About
I’m Daniel Östling, a product leader in Lisbon. I’ve spent ten years in commerce and B2B software — first delivering CRM for Fortune 500 clients at Lime Technologies in Stockholm, then leading a 12-person data science team at CASAFARI, building ML on European real-estate data.
At Moteefe I went from Product Lead to Managing Director, owning the P&L of the Enterprise unit and scaling it from €1M to €4M in two years at a 65% margin, with partners including H&M Group and Lucozade. That seat taught me the thing I now apply to AI: the only build that matters is the one that shows up in the numbers.
Since 2023 I run FractalOcean, where I ship AI inside commerce companies — Direct Wines, The Wall Street Journal, Lucozade — and build my own products: Monde, Karl, and an RFQ vision model. I work hands-on: spec, code, evals, adoption.
RECOMMENDATIONS
I had the chance to work closely with Daniel as a fractional product leader, and he made an impact right away. He quickly zeroed in on the highest-leverage opportunities and kept the team focused on what actually moves the business, not just activity.
He also brought AI into the team in a way that actually stuck. From a Claude-powered PR review bot to AI-driven rule systems embedded in the IDE, these weren’t experiments, they’re tools the team uses every day.
Daniel moves fast. He goes from insight to production in days, not weeks, and does it with strong judgment and high quality. Despite being fractional, he fully embedded with the team, ramped quickly on a complex environment, made confident decisions, and shipped independently.
Just as important, he left the team better than he found it, more focused, more capable, and more self-sufficient. I’d work with him again in a heartbeat and highly recommend him to any team looking for a product leader who delivers real impact, especially at the intersection of product and AI.

Daniel spearheaded the development and launch of a strategically important initiative which enabled Direct Wines to deliver a unique branded experience for the largest media company in the US. At critical junctures he navigated the team to success using a mixture of technical knowledge, pragmatism, and a solution based mindset. His experience and ability to communicate with confidence built confidence with stakeholders and I hope I get the opportunity to work with him in the future.
I have had the pleasure of working with Daniel for approximately two years in the following key areas, and I highly recommend him:
- Development and successful implementation of the sales and marketing strategy.
- Leading product development initiatives.
- Managing the engagement and retention of two global brands.
- Demonstrating excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Creating targeted marketing campaigns that resulted in over 1,000 sign-ups.
On a personal level, Daniel has been supportive, engaging, and quick to respond. He consistently offers sound advice and is great at troubleshooting, making him an exceptional and well-rounded colleague.
